‘Drinking good wine with good food in good company is one of life’s most civilised pleasures’ ·  Michael Broadbent

Our Chester wine tasting events are always an entertaining experience. Choose from an afternoon out at Restaurant 1539 at Chester Racecourse or for our midweek evening events in The Roof Lounge at 1539. We host premium and fine fine wine tasting evenings at The Chester Grosvenor on Friday evenings throughout the year too.

1539 is home to our signature wine tasting afternoons which take place on Saturdays throughout the year. This stunning venue recently completed a £500,000 refurbishment and the private dining room enjoys amazing views over Chester’s historic racecourse. 1539 is named after the year that racing first took place on the famous Roodee at Chester.

Our midweek evening tastings take place in The Roof Lounge at 1539 with the roof open during the summer months and at The Chester Grosvenor where you can enjoy an evening of timeless luxury at our region’s finest hotel and enjoy food and fine wine pairing at it’s very best.

Our wine tasting Saturdays are themed around a wide range of world wine regions and feature events. We welcome you with a glass of The Gusbourne Estate English Sparkling wine and over the course of the afternoon you’ll try some amazing wines matched with fantastic cooking from the team at Restaurant 1539. We’ll show you how wine and food pairing really works with a gourmet four couse lunch included in the price.

At our midweek evening wine tastings we’ll showcase a great wine selection tailored to the season and we’ll show you how they pair with great cooking with delicious canapés and selected cheeses from the team at 1539 and at The Chester Grosvenor enjoy the finest cheeses available, chosen for us by Michelin Star Executive Chef Simon Radley.
