The Chester Gin Social in The Roof Lounge · Thursday 26/4/18
We’re often asked about gin – more importantly would we host a gin tasting. Like all our tasting events we only want to do it well and stay true to our commitment to entertainment, enjoyment and education. If we decided to host a gin tasting we would only feature:
premium tonic water or mixers and premium garnishes
a premium venue
a decent measure! A tiny tasting is never enough and is frankly rather rude!
last and never least, provide an entertaining evening out with great company.
We avoid projectors and screens as we don’t want our tasting events to seem like an extension to your day at work. We love gin as much as the rest of the UK and we’ve decided the time has arrived to satisfy our guest’s wishes:
we welcome you to The Chester Gin Social!
Join us in Chester’s best outside space – The Roof Lounge at Restaurant 1539. Weather permitting the roof will be open – we have you covered in the event of rain with the retractable roof. Enjoy spectacular views over Chester racecourse and indulge in a tour of the world of gin like no other in town.
Gin has a colourful history and during your evening with us in The Roof Lounge you’ll get to know a little more about the history of gin and of course enjoy a fantastic selection of premium gins as well as the stories behind the distilleries who make them.
We’ll showcase five amazing gins which we’ll pair with premium tonic waters and mixers as well as a selection of garnishes which will include fresh herbs from Restaurant 1539’s own herb garden which is attached to the City Wall. There are five different drinks in total (all with a full measure* of gin – no tiny tasters allowed!) and then you can ‘create your own’ after with your favourite gin of the night** together with your choice of tonic and garnish.
All this plus the amazing atmosphere of The Roof Lounge overlooking Chester’s historic racecourse too – is there a better way to enjoy a Thursday evening out in Chester?
If you’re in the mood to try a few more, the bar at Restaurant 1539 will be open afterwards.
*Where stated a measure is at least the UK standard 25ml.
**subject to availability from our chosen selection.
Bar nibbles will be served during the evening: we suggest you eat prior to the event.
Your wine school host
The evening will be hosted by our Founder, Richard Smith, who will share with you some of his twenty five years knowledge of all things wine as well as some anecdotes (but alas, no secrets) from his time as a butler. Richard trained at one of the world’s finest hotels and is proud to have advised several members of the British Royal Family and a number of international heads of state and celebrities. Richard has recently been featured in The Daily Mail and Cheshire Life magazine and he regularly writes for The Taster magazine. He most recently appeared at Three Wine Men in Manchester alongside TV wine legends Oz Clarke, Olly Smith and Tim Atkin MW.
