What's included

The Wine School of Cheshire’s Founder and wine writer, Richard Smith, met Colin and Charlotte Bennett back in 2016 and they’ve worked together at RHS Tatton Park showcasing wines from England and Wales for two consecutive years. With the Welsh border being just a few miles from Chester, Richard is proud to feature these amazing wines in Chester for the second time. For this entertaining evening in The Roof Lounge* at Restaurant 1539, you can meet Colin and Charlotte, owners of the one acre Gwinllan Conwy vineyard, which produces an amazing range of award-winning Welsh still and sparkling wines. Find out the history behind Gwinllan Conwy as well as Colin and Charlotte’s plans for the future, finding out about the hard work involved in setting up and sustaining a commercial vineyard and of course enjoy the wines too!

We’ll start things off welcoming you with a glass of Sparkling Solaris and together we’ll be introducing you to the whole range of Gwinllan Conwy wines for you to taste and enjoy with our selected food pairing from the team at Restaurant 1539. You’ll savour the flavours of a selection of canapés and cheeses which we’ve chosen especially to match the wines.

*  For our guests comfort our winter wine tastings will take place in the interior Roof Lounge

Canapés and cheeses will be served during the evening, individually paired with our wine selection.

Vegetarian and specialist dietary options are always available by prior arrangement.

Your wine school host

The evening will be hosted by our Founder, Richard Smith, who will share with you some of his twenty five years knowledge of all things wine as well as some anecdotes (but alas, no secrets) from his time as a butler. Richard trained at one of the world’s finest hotels and is proud to have advised several members of the British Royal Family and a number of international heads of state and celebrities. Richard has recently been featured in The Daily Mail and Cheshire Life magazine and he regularly writes for The Taster magazine and Chester.com.
